Miguel Rubio is a Facility Condition Assessment Specialist with the Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEI). His responsibilities include facility condition assessments with an emphasis on mechanical systems, particularly heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). Prior to joining PSFEI, Rubio was in the HVAC industry for more than two decades. As a service technician, he was responsible for coordinating and performing maintenance and services working with building engineers to resolve comfort issues and recommending and implementing improvements to the HVAC systems. Most recently he was the founder and owner of Rubio Mechanical where he provided services to residential and commercial customers in the DC area. During his 14 years as a business owner, Rubio gained vast experience in the commercial HVAC design process working with building owners; developers; architects; and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers. He earned master HVAC licenses in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC and holds multiple certifications including the EPA Section 608 Universal Technician certification, North American Technician Excellence (NATE) industry certification, and multiple manufacturers’ training certifications including Liebert, Carrier, and Trane.
