Israel Monroy is a Mechanical Engineer with the Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEI). Primarily serving the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), his responsibilities include conducting facility condition assessments with an emphasis on building envelope and mechanical and structural systems. Prior to joining PSFEI on a full-time basis, Monroy developed a background in facility condition assessments by first joining PSFEI as an engineering intern. He served as an undergraduate student researcher for the Penn State SHAPE Lab, where he studied new applications for additive manufacturing and 3-D sand printing for casting molds. He helped develop a novel wireless sensor system designed to measure critical casting parameters such as flow rate and gate velocity inside sand molds during the sand-casting process. Monroy holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State.
